Teaching and Learning FAQs

What is an EdCube portfolio?

EdCube digital portfolios allow students to develop collections of their work to showcase their efforts, progress and achievements. The student portfolio provides a learning journey which can be a springboard to communication and collaboration with teachers, parents and peers.

Many schools use the digital folio to reflect students as learners and to provide evidence of authentic learning which incorporates publishing, communication, collaboration, assessment and reporting.

The EdCube digital portfolio provides the following opportunities:

  • Showcase and promote the student as a learner
  • The student to reflect on their learning
  • Foster authentic conversations about learning (individual and peer)
  • The ability to set and track progress
  • Represent what, how and why a student is learning
  • Create a learning profile over several year levels
  • Foster rich assessment and reporting

Where do we get professional development in the deployment of Digital Portfolios?

Email info@edcube.net for information about suitable professional development programs for your school.

Is there an EdCube discussion/support group?

Yes. Simply send an email to info@edcube.net to join.

Are there any free resources that I can access about the use of Digital Portfolios in the classroom?

We have a "Quick Start Guide" that includes a Rubric that will assist you in setting up your students' portfolio space.

Why doesn't EdCube have "ready-made" templates?

EdCube's research concluded that to assist teachers in the process of achieving "authentic assessment" that the use of templates was not appropriate. We are in the process of creating a "template maker" that teachers can use if this is what they want to.

The EdCube network license allows you to install the program on all student and staff computers on an individual school's network. This version does not include home access.

Can I use EdCube Publisher on more than one classroom computer?

EdCube Publisher allows a teacher to install the program on one classroom computer and create portfolios for up to 35 students.

EdCube Network pricing is and annual license paid for three years, then the school owns the license. What if we don't want EdCube after the first of second year? Do we still have to pay?

No. If your school decides not to continue using EdCube, simply contact your account representative to arrange to terminate your contract.

What amount of disk space would you reasonably expect to need per student when using EdCube Network edition?

It all depends on how many artifacts you allow the students to include in their portfolio. Video is the most "hungry" file type. Limiting the amount of student videos will assist in managing the disk space on your server.

We have a notebook program. Does the Network version allow us to install EdCube on students' notebook computers?

Yes. The site license includes the installation on students' notebook computers. Unfortunately, with this version, access from home is not available. If you require home access, please purchase EdCube Connect.
